Sauerteigbrot and a Bumpy Season

Molasses: friend or foe?

I created this recipe many, many years ago, back when our children were growing up and they were in their “healthy growth spurt” season.

We were trying to save money, too, so “healthy” often meant whatever we could do ourselves.

Freshly ground whole wheat flour? We’d buy it from the local feed mill, of all places. I can still picture those big bins and the dusty smell of grain in the air. It felt so wholesome and so practical.
