Potato Dumplings and Hidden Gifts

One hidden crouton

 

Years ago, when I was still running a private Christian school, the grandmother of one of our kindergarten students called to ask about a job opening. She mentioned she had just closed her daycare, and I invited her to come in so we could talk.
 
While I waited, I’ll admit it, my mind started painting a picture of her. I imagined a little old lady with grey hair in a bun, the whole “frail granny” idea, and I was already wondering what small role I could possibly find for her.
