Bienenstich and Mutti’s Way
One raised eyebrow.
One of my favorite cakes that Mutti made was bienenstich.
She loved it too, but it was work and tricky to make. Her version was the traditional yeast bienenstich, and that takes time. So she didn’t make it often. It usually showed up when guests came, or for birthdays.
And here's the funny part. Because she made it so rarely, I didn't ever try to make it myself. In my mind, bienenstich belonged in Mutti’s hands. It felt like one of those cakes I'd admire, not one I would casually bake on a weekday.
