Zuckertüte (TSOOK-er-tue-tuh) Literally “sugar cone” From zucker (sugar) + tüte (paper bag or cone). A zuckertüte is filled with sweets and school supplies for a child’s first day of school. The first documented example comes from Jena in 1817, and the custom spread from Thuringia and Saxony across Germany.
