Pustekuchen (POOS-tuh-koo-khen) Literally “puff cake” From pusten (to blow or puff) + kuchen (cake), although the true origin of this playful expression is uncertain. It has been recorded since about 1900 and means “no such luck,” “not a chance,” or “you thought wrong.” It has nothing to do with cake.
