Hausmusik (HOWS-moo-zeek) Literally “house music” From haus (house or home) + musik (music). Hausmusik means music performed at home by family members or friends. It became especially important in German-speaking middle-class homes during the 1700s and 1800s, long before recorded music could fill the room.
